ABOUT US


Founded in 1924, Soroptimist International of New York City (SINYC) is part of the Federation of Soroptimist International of the Americas (SIA), one of the four federations of Soroptimist International (SI).  SI has consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council. Five of SINYC's members serve as official SI representatives to the UN.

 

SINYC is 501(c)(3) charitable organization -- gifts and donations are fully tax deductible.   

 

Soroptimist is derived from the Latin 'soror' meaning sister/woman and 'optima' meaning the best.

Soroptimist is interpreted as 'the best for women,' or 'women for the best.'
