President's Letter
Welcome to Soroptimist International of New York City (SINYC)
We are a group of women who have been supporting each other and our goals during these trying pandemic times.
Currently our meetings are mainly online via Zoom with occasional in person meetings. We have an open invitation, we'd love to see you one day.
With Club member support, we have been able to give our usual awards, detailed below. Our Fall event of scarf, socks, gloves and hat collection/sale was very successful and I would like to thank everyone involved. The Women's shelter we donated them to were very appreciative.
We are a local club, part of a national and international organization with consultative status on the United Nations Economic and Special Council. At the UN, Soroptimist Representatives advocate for improving the lives of women and girls around the world.
Our mission includes working towards economic empowerment for women and girls through education.
To that end, SINYC presents two monetary awards each year; the Education Award and the Live Your Dream Award. The Education Award is given to a woman attending school for her first degree, to be used for her school fees. The Live Your Dream Award is given to a female head of household, studying, supporting her family and beginning her career, to be used in anyway the awardee needs to remain in school.
The Dream It, Be It program mentors and encourages girls to enter both traditional and non-traditional professions.
We are an inclusive group, everyone is welcome, join us on Zoom or for a meeting, check the calendar for the dates.
